A lawsuit filed on September 24, 2026 in Los Angeles County Superior Court by a client of Lanier Meyer McBride Blair LLP alleges that Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District failed to protect a student at Los Alisos Middle School from sexual abuse by teacher Scott Harrison Waln, who is also named as a defendant. The complaint alleges the district ignored warning signs, including that the teacher secluded students in isolated areas during breaks and had a reputation for acting inappropriately with female students, and failed to supervise, investigate, or report him. The complaint alleges, on information and belief, that Waln was convicted by a jury of two felony counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor under 14 arising from misconduct at the school and is currently incarcerated.
