A lawsuit filed on August 7, 2026 in Los Angeles County Superior Court by a client of Lanier Meyer McBride Blair LLP alleges that Lancaster School District failed to protect a student at Desert View Elementary School in Lancaster from sexual abuse by a teacher whose name is not yet known to the plaintiff and who is sued as “Doe 1.” The complaint alleges the district ignored warning signs, including the teacher openly physically abusing students in class and regularly keeping students alone with her in an isolated portable classroom with the blinds closed, and failed to supervise her, investigate, or report as required by California's child abuse reporting law (CANRA). The abuse is alleged to have occurred in the 1990s.

What the complaint alleges

“DOE 1 regularly and unilaterally retained minor students — including Plaintiff and at least one other minor male student — alone with her in her classroom during lunch, recess, and after school, without parental permission, administrative approval, or a second adult present”

“DOE 1 regularly and unilaterally retained minor students — including Plaintiff and at least one other minor male student — alone with her in her classroom during lunch, recess, and after school, without parental permission, administrative approval, or a second adult present”

(Complaint ¶ 26)

“DOE 1 conducted these one-on-one retentions inside a detached bungalow/trailer classroom that was physically isolated from the main school buildings and from the natural sightlines of administrators, faculty and staff; the window blinds of DOE 1’s classroom were kept closed at all times, eliminating any visibility into the classroom from the outside”

(Complaint ¶ 26)

“based upon information and belief, DOE 1 physically abused students openly and in the presence of other students in her classroom — including slamming Plaintiff down into a seat, slamming other students down, and on at least one occasion striking another student’s head against a desk — this was abusive conduct that was plainly visible, recurring, and reportable under CANRA.”

(Complaint ¶ 25)

These are allegations in a pending lawsuit. They have not been proven, and no court has made any findings.
